A Detroit rapper is suing Lyft after one of its drivers refused to give her a ride due to her weight. Dank Demoss says the driver, identified as Abraham in a video posted on X, told her that she would not fit in his car and that his tires could not handle her weight.
Demoss, whose weight is reported to be pounds, claims that she regularly rides in vehicles smaller than the one driven by the Lyft employee. Demoss, whose real name is Dajua Blanding, needed a ride to a Detroit Lions watch party earlier this month. She tells WJBK-TV that she feels her rights have been violated and says the driver's refusal to give her a ride was a slap in the face.
Blanding has hired attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan who have filed a lawsuit against Lyft on her behalf. Marko notes that weight is a protected class in Michigan and denying a passenger the right to a ride is tantamount to denying someone service because of race or religion. Unverified reports indicate that Lyft has terminated the driver. Hindustan Times reached out to the rideshare company but was told they are not able to comment on ongoing cases.
